Don’t let yourselves be disturbed. Trust in God and trust in me. In my Father’s house are many places [mansions] to live. If there weren’t, I would have told you; because I am going there to prepare a place for you. Since I am going and preparing a place for you, I will return to take you with me; so that where I am, you may be also.
(John 14:1-3 CJB)
What mansions is Jesus talking about? The word used for mansion is mone, and the word is used again in verse 23:
Yeshua answered him, “If someone loves me, he will keep my word; and my Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our home with him.
(John 14:23 CJB)
Jesus was on His way to the cross, not to heaven, when he said all this. From verse 23 we learn that He did not mean a mansion in heaven. He went to prepare us on the cross to become a mansion, an abode for Him and His Father.
A second way to see this: where are the mansions? In His Father’s house. Now, we are the temple, therefore the mansions are within us.
Shortly thereafter he already started to dwell in us, what Paul calls the mystery: Christ in us, the hope of glory. He now, together with us, prepares us and the world to be a dwelling place for the Father:
I heard a loud voice from the throne say, “See! God’s Sh’khinah [glory] is with mankind, and he will live with them. They will be his people, and he himself, God-with-them, will be their God.
(Rev 21:3 CJB)
