Where were you when I founded the earth? Tell me, if you know so much. Do you know who determined its dimensions or who stretched the measuring line across it? On what were its bases sunk, or who laid its cornerstone, when the morning stars sang together, and all the sons of God shouted for joy? Job 38:4-7
Where were you, Job?
Traditional understanding of this passage is this: you were not around then, were you? God telling Job to “buzz off”, to take a back seat, to humble himself and watch.
A very valid interpretation. But what if …
Let me mess with your thinking for a while.
In Genesis, man was created before there were any bushes or trees, right when the earth and heavens were created.
Here is the history of the heavens and the earth when they were created. On the day when ADONAI, God, made earth and heaven, there was as yet no wild bush on the earth, and no wild plant had as yet sprung up; … Then ADONAI, God, formed a person [Hebrew: adam] from the dust of the ground [Hebrew: adamah] and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, so that he became a living being.
Gen 2:4-7
He then puts man into the garden.
We learned that all things are founded in heaven before they are established on the earth. Let us for a moment say that the first account of creation, the seven days, are but founding things in heaven. When God speaks a word, it creates. When God answers a prayer, it is. But it has to be established in the earth.
Remember Joshua and Jericho? The walls fell the moment God pronounced it. But they literally had to walk it out on earth – for seven days. A coincidence?
Let’s continue this train of thought.
When God spoke to Job, he used an interesting phrase: the sons of God. What if this does not mean angels, as commonly portrayed? What if this is manhood, before being put into the garden? What if all men have already been founded in heaven, and natural birth is but establishing, breaking forth into the earth?
Don’t be confused by the phrase “he became a living being”. The word there denotes creature, soul, self, emotion, passion, desire, mind. We could translate: an earthly inhabitant.
This would mean that the moment a new body is brought into existence, God uses his Spirit, his wind, to blow a son of God into that body. From the supernatural realm to the natural. From heaven to earth.
Back to Job. If this is true, God reminded Job about what happened.”Tell me, since you know. You were not there when I thought this out and established it in heaven – but for a little while, towards the end. And you certainly were there when I established it on earth.”
Can we remember heaven? Behind all our cultural imprint, is it possible to regain memory? Is it necessary? Is our live about rediscovering a truth on a much deeper level than we thought?
Think about this: if all this is true, then God just had to form a body in Mary and inspire it with his Son, just like he does with everybody. He needs nobody to build a body. He just showed us in the creation story. He decided to use two human beings in the natural process. And he used but one when his Son came to earth.
This means that we have almost the same start – we are burdened with the inheritance of our fathers though – and certainly the same chance as Jesus. Just remember who you are – a son of God.
